Worship by Ashley Campbell |
At times, I'm awed by how God arranges things in our lives for Him to reveal something of great value. A while ago, I led a small group meeting discussing John 4 (Jesus talks with a Samaritan woman.) My material talked about knowing what or whom to worship.
My group had a serious discussion on how to make sure you are doing things for God even while running a business or doing your job. Some members got it, but some needed help.
In this other group's mind (one which had a hard time understanding), it was not clear. They can't get the point that whatever your mind focuses on most of the time, that is actually what you worship. Others were struck by the thought, because they realize they spend more time thinking about their business, money, telenovelas or some other trivial matters.
So... to make it plain to them, I had to explicate matters in a deeper level, just to make them understand that no matter what you do for a living, you can actually offer it to God as a form of worship. This way, whatever your mind, body, and spirit are doing will please God.
Now, just to elaborate the point, meditate on the verse below:
Colossians 3:23-24, New International Version (NIV) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Granting that a job in point is not illegal or outright sinful.
With this experience, I'm more challenged to study and prepare even more meticulously for any unclear or difficult portions of the lesson. I have resolved to do this, just to make sure I can deliver the message (that God has assigned at that particular time) to share in a clear and compelling way.
Based on the experience, I'm reminded, and made even more aware of the fact: teaching is challenging (especially about the Word), but when done right, it's immensely fulfilling. Jesus, after all, modeled how a teacher-extraordinaire should perform his duties.
In all of these, I give God the glory!
